Steeda Autosports, a leader in high performance Mustang components, recently delivered its new Police Pursuit Package Mustang to the Valdosta, Georgia Police Department, giving them a potent pony to pursue perps. Police Mustangs have been around since Ford fans first got a taste of the popular SSP, or Special Service Package Fox-body in the 1980s. Ford continued building Special Service Mustangs until 1993, and while Ford doesn’t formally produce an Interceptor, or Special Service model, Steeda has developed this unique package to increase performance and durability for law enforcement agencies.
“We are tremendously proud to support our law enforcement professionals with a unique line of pursuit vehicles that will help them when responding to emergency situations,” said Dario Orlando, President of Steeda Autosports. “Our marked and unmarked Steeda Police Pursuit Mustangs are a bad guy’s worst nightmare—and we’re glad to have delivered a new S550 Mustang to the Valdosta Police Department. This package combines the performance to overtake the fastest violators with the utility needed for everyday patrol. Plus, it enables law enforcement to end pursuits quickly and that translates to increased safety for the public and the officer,” Orlando added.
Steeda Police Pursuit Mustangs can be custom-optioned with a variety of modifications to suit the needs of rural and urban agencies. And like it’s Q-series high performance street and track models, the Steeda Police Pursuit Mustang features Steeda’s world-class enhancements designed to improve acceleration, chassis stiffness, cornering ability and braking. The Steeda PPM was also designed with severe duty in mind and it can deliver increased fuel economy as well.
“The vehicle will be assigned to our traffic sergeant for traffic enforcement, and will also be used at local and state community events as a showcase car,” said Valdosta Chief of Police, Brian Childress. “The vehicle was $29,000 under a competitive bid,” he added, and the purpose of the vehicle was two-fold; we plan to use it for traffic enforcement, and to showcase our department at community events. Clearly the vehicle is an “eye-catcher” and that will help with recruitment. Steeda improved the suspension, engine airflow, and exhaust system. The vehicle has very good handling,” Childress stated.
The Valdosta PD Mustang features Steeda Rear IRS Sub-frame Support Braces, IRS Sub-frame Bushing Support System, Ultralite 2-Point G-Trac Brace, Strut Tower Brace, and Steeda Mustang Front and Rear Sway Bar Kit. But unlike many Steeda Mustangs, it has not been lowered. To increase horsepower, Steeda added its ProFlow Mustang Cold-Air Intake, specially calibrated tune and Steeda Mustang Fastback GT Axle-Back Exhaust System. It was also fitted with a VPD graphics package, and rooftop light bar.
“Our strategic intent is to provide patrol officers with vehicles that have lightning-quick acceleration and unmatched handling capabilities, allowing patrol officers to perform their job in the safest and most expedient manner possible,” added Orlando. “With more power and increased efficiency, the Steeda Pursuit Vehicles also provide greatly enhanced durability and are built to take on the rigors of everyday police intercept operations and emergency responses unlike any other competitive products available in the market today.”
Not only is the PPM Mustang is an affordable way for law enforcement agencies to arm officers with a unique pursuit tool, but it’s a cool way to connect with local citizens at car shows or events. According to Steeda, the Police Pursuit Vehicles and packages are available to all authorized police and law enforcement agencies and can be designed for marked or unmarked use.
